About the artist
Hello, and welcome! My name is Mari Jamaleldine Davis, and I’m the owner and artist behind Ahlan Creative Studio. I live in Austin, TX with my partner, two kiddos, and our dog.
Creating art is in my DNA - several generations of my family included artists. Coloring was my favorite childhood activity, and my very first job was working at an art studio. I went on to study graphic design in undergrad followed by business in grad school where I earned an MBA with an emphasis in brand management. My corporate career has always involved some element of creativity and project management - both of which are required for designing and painting successful murals.
My art is inspired by my lived experiences as a woman and Arab-American. I’m always thrilled when an opportunity allows for me to incorporate a style or motifs that celebrate Arab culture. However, I’m just as comfortable working within your brand guidelines or adapting to whatever style is most appropriate for the project at hand. I can’t wait to bring your vision to life!
About the studio
Ahlan Creative Studio was born out of a desire to use my passion and talents to better the world around me. I see my art and day-to-day interactions with my community as a vehicle for changing hearts and minds.
Breaking negative stereotypes and creating a more positive and welcoming world for people of all backgrounds, but especially the Arab diaspora, is my mission. I believe in this so much it’s even the story behind my company name. You see, “Ahlan” is short for “Ahlan wa Sahlan”, a common Arabic phrase meaning “welcome!”
So, if you believe in making the world a more positive and welcoming place through the power of art, we’ll be a good fit!
